Let Us Get As Excited About Your Project As You Are

There is a moment, somewhere between signing the contract on your plot and lying awake at two in the morning, where it starts. A feeling. An image in your head. The texture of a floor. The light hitting a wall a certain way. A bathroom that makes you exhale the moment you walk in. You might not know what the material is called. You might not even know if it exists. But you know exactly how you want it to feel. That is the moment to call in a surface consultancy.

That moment — that one — is when you should call us. As a surface consultancy, that is exactly the conversation we are built for.

Before You Even Have the Keys

The surface journey for any serious project starts long before there’s a site to visit. It starts with a vision — and the worst thing you can do with that vision is leave it swirling in your head while you spend evenings trawling tile websites and Instagram saves, building a picture from a thousand different sources that may or may not be giving you accurate information.

The surfaces and interiors world online is, to be honest, full of noise. Beautiful imagery, yes. But also misinformation about durability, suitability, sizing, lead times, and what things actually cost when you factor in everything properly. Surface blindness is real. It happens to almost everyone who tries to do this alone.

The smarter approach — and the one our long-term clients will tell you changed everything for them — is to bring in a surface consultancy early. Someone who will listen, not sell. Someone who will tell you when something won’t work, not just take the order. That’s what we’re here for.

So if you’ve just had an offer accepted, appointed a designer, or simply decided this is the year you’re finally doing the renovation properly — that’s the right time to reach out.

Your First Surface Consultancy Conversation

You’ve scrolled the site. You’ve watched a video or two. Something about it feels different — a bit more honest, a bit less showroom-showbiz. You decide to get in touch.

You fill in the form, or you pick up the phone. Either way, what happens next is a surface consultancy conversation — not a pitch.

We want to hear about the project — the vision, the scope, the timeline, where things stand, what you’ve already fallen in love with and what’s worrying you. From that first conversation, we start to get a sense of what this project needs, what a realistic budget looks like, and where we can genuinely add value.

There are no pushy tactics here. There never have been, and there never will be. If it’s not the right fit, we’ll tell you. What I am not interested in is taking on a project that we’re not going to be able to serve properly, or taking your money for the wrong reasons. I’ve spent twenty-five years in this industry watching that approach destroy businesses and reputations. It’s not what Aura is about.

Come Into the Showroom. We'll Put the Kettle On.

If you’re local — or even if you’re not, because people do make the trip — we’ll invite you into the showroom.

I used to joke that we lock the door and don’t let people out. That is absolutely not my style. What we actually do is welcome you in, make you a coffee, and leave you to breathe. You might want to bring your designer. You might want to come alone. All of that is fine. This isn’t a guided tour with a clipboard and a sales target. It’s a space to look, to feel, to sit with things.

The clients who feel comfortable, who feel heard, who don’t feel pressured — those are the ones who come back, who refer their friends, who send us photographs of finished spaces years later.

That first showroom visit might be two years before a single product goes on site. It doesn’t matter. That meeting is one of the most valuable things we do, because it’s where the real picture starts to form.

The Long Game — What Good Surface Consultancy Looks Like

I have clients I’ve been working with for two years who still don’t have a product on site yet. They all say the same thing at some point: “I bet you’re bored of us by now.”

The answer is always no.

I learned a long time ago that understanding how people think, how they make decisions, what they’re actually worried about — that is the work. Not just matching a tile to a floor plan — that is what a surface consultancy does when it is working properly. The relationship is the product, in many ways.

So no, I’m not bored. If anything, I’d like to see you more — provided you’re serious about the project. And if you’re serious, I will be completely invested in getting it right.

Realistic Budgets. Honest Guidance.

One of the worst outcomes in any project is when someone falls in love with a material, commits emotionally to it, and then discovers it’s either technically wrong for the application or completely out of reach for the budget. That’s a painful, avoidable conversation to have when you’re six months into a build.

We have that conversation at the beginning instead.

From the early meetings, we map out what a realistic budget looks like across the whole project. From there, we can value engineer. Maybe the main suite deserves the very best — the marble you’ve been dreaming about, the book-matched slab. And maybe the guest bathrooms can come down in budget without anyone noticing the difference. Maybe we can find the exact same look at a fraction of the cost.

The goal is always the same: get your vision as close to perfect as the budget genuinely allows, without compromise where it actually matters.

Samples, Mood Boards, and Getting It Right

Once we’ve built the picture of the project and the people behind it, we keep going. More meetings. More samples — full-size pieces where possible, not just swatches. Brochures. Mood boards. Visits to site if the project warrants it.

For larger projects, we can arrange trips to see production directly — visiting the factories in Italy, seeing how the materials are made, understanding what makes one product genuinely superior to another. This kind of visit changes how clients engage with their own projects.

Some clients make their decisions in an afternoon. Others go back and forth for two years. Both are completely fine. This is not a process you should rush. There’s a difference between efficiency and speed. We are efficient. We are not fast for the sake of it. Costly mistakes in surface specification are almost always the product of someone cutting the thinking short.

When the Decisions Are Made

When you’re ready — when the products are right, the quantities are confirmed, and the budget makes sense — we move to ordering.

By this point, there are rarely any surprises. Because we’ve been transparent throughout the process, because you’ve been part of every decision, the final cost isn’t a shock. You budgeted for it, you understand it, and you’re comfortable.

We handle the negotiation with suppliers, manage the logistics, and place the orders — taking responsibility for getting the right products to the right place at the right time.

In the Warehouse. In the UK. Safe.

Products arrive into our warehouse and are stored securely until they’re needed on site. Knowing your materials are physically in the country — not sitting in a container somewhere mid-Atlantic, not subject to supply chain delays — gives you and your team genuine peace of mind and the ability to plan properly.

Lead times vary significantly. Some products are available within three weeks. Others carry eight to twelve week lead times from the factory. If you know this from the beginning — which you will, because we’ll have told you at the first conversation — it simply becomes part of the plan. No delays, no panic, no last-minute decisions made under pressure.

Getting It On Site

Delivery is coordinated to suit the build programme. We have access to crane lorries where lifting equipment isn’t on site. We can organise pallet networks or direct loads depending on what the project requires, and always work to minimise delivery costs and packaging waste. The goal, right through to the last pallet on site, is to make this as smooth as possible for everyone involved.

So. Talk to Your Surface Consultancy.

Aura Surfaces is not for everyone. We’re not a volume showroom, we’re not the cheapest option on the high street, and we’re not interested in being either of those things.

What we are is a surface consultancy that takes the hard work of surface specification seriously. We build real relationships with the people we work with. We tell the truth — about products, about budgets, about what works and what doesn’t. And we invest in your project the way a good architect or a trusted builder invests in it: with care, with knowledge, and with a genuine interest in the outcome.

Come and find us. Tell us about your vision. Because that’s the whole point — let us get as excited about your project as you are. That’s the goal. That’s always been the goal.
