Beneath the Surface: The Aura Insider – One Year In: The Journey of Aura Surfaces

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ashley Fabian, the visionary and founder behind Aura Surfaces. I have spent almost my whole life immersed in the surfaces industry in one way or another, and I absolutely love working with our clients to help them create perfect spaces—whether in the residential or commercial sector. Watching the industry change and evolve over the years has been fascinating, and I’ve dedicated much of my life to learning, understanding, and staying ahead of these changes.
Over the years, I’ve built incredible relationships, worked on amazing projects, and established a strong reputation in my field. Yet, despite everything achieved so far, I feel like the journey is just beginning.
My Vision
I’ve decided to launch this monthly newsletter to give you a deeper dive behind the scenes at Aura Surfaces. Here, I’ll share my honest opinions on industry trends and add a personal touch, giving you insight into the driving force behind Aura Surfaces.
As I write this, it has been almost one year to the day since Aura Surfaces transitioned from an idea in my head into an official company. I still remember the moment the incorporation certificate arrived—it was the real beginning. From there, we focused on finding the perfect premises, building a team, creating the branding, and sourcing products that were not only of the highest quality but also sustainable where possible.
This journey has been exciting, taking me and the team across Europe, visiting manufacturing plants, marble quarries, and showrooms. We learned a lot along the way, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in just our first year.
The Essence of Aura Surfaces
Now, I might be biased, but I know what I’m doing. We have created a warm and welcoming space where clients can spend time with our team and carefully select the perfect surfaces for a wide range of applications.
My vision was to streamline the process—creating a space that didn’t focus on just one material. Think of our showroom as an architect’s and designer’s dream, an extension of their own materials library. A space they can bring their clients and be left alone. We showcase thousands of products suitable for various applications, allowing you to have a single point of contact for most of your surface needs.
We pride ourselves in being able to source solutions for a wide range of tastes, styles, and budgets. So, don’t let the luxurious feel we’ve created at Aura Surfaces fool you—we can provide products for a large private residential build with an uncapped budget or a series of affordable living flats and homes. But what we will never do is lower our quality standards.
Our expert team works tirelessly to stay ahead of trends, understand our clients’ needs, and ensure their dreams come to life. We help create jaw-dropping spaces that continue to impress time and time again.
Knowing The Industry
With 30 years in the industry, I’ve seen it all. I’ve watched materials evolve, played a key role in major product decisions, and introduced products to market before any of my competitors.
Remember those horrible yellow and blue 10×10 tiles on your splashback when you bought your home? Or the glossy ceramic wall tiles with a white halo that made the grout joint look miles wide? Even the time when a 30×30 tile was considered large format?
I still remember the day my father brought in 60×60 floor tiles—everyone thought he was crazy! Looking back now, 60×60 is often too small for many applications. Technology in the surfaces industry is evolving rapidly, and I’ve been fortunate to be at the forefront of new innovations.
2025 has started strong for Aura Surfaces, with some incredible projects on the horizon. As a team, we are extremely excited to work with our clients to turn their houses into homes, their Air BnB properties into places people come back to time and time again, their hotels and spas into award-winning, recognised spaces, and to revamp restaurants and bars. Hospitality is an industry we cherish and love working in.
Story Time
We have a client who is building his family’s dream home away from home—this space has to be perfect. The family was confused and, I will use this term a lot: “surface blind.” They had spent months building this property in their heads but after looking at so many options, they had absolutely no idea what they wanted and had conflicting interests when it came to the space.
After visiting the property, I was able to get a better idea of their vision. A few hours of looking through their Pinterest boards and Instagram saves gave me a clear picture of how they wanted to feel when they—and their guests—entered the home. A few meetings later, I had removed their surface blindness. We had everything for all the spaces narrowed down. We knew the look, we knew the feel, and we managed to incorporate the whole family’s ideas into the home while tying them together beautifully.
I can’t express this enough—we understand that making these decisions is difficult.
