Bathroom Renovation | Luxury Hotel-Inspired Marble Design
Some bathrooms are functional. This one was designed to be an experience. The brief from this Sussex client was unambiguous: the quality and atmosphere of a five-star hotel bathroom, delivered within a private home. We worked with two carefully chosen porcelain slabs — one luminous, one dark — to create a space where the materials do the architectural work.
Neutral Onyx in a 60×120 cm polished format covers the primary surfaces — the walls, the bath surround, the vanity alcove. Its veining is precise: present enough to give depth and life to the surface, restrained enough not to overwhelm the space. The polished finish amplifies natural and artificial light throughout the day, making the room feel larger and more luminous than its footprint would suggest.
Darker marble-effect porcelain provides the grounding. Used as a full-height feature wall behind the bath and as the shower surround, it frames the space and gives it weight. The contrast between the two materials is entirely deliberate — light and shadow, surface and depth, refinement and drama. The laying required precision at every stage: tight joints, perfectly aligned veining at the key junctions, an immaculate finish throughout.
The result is a bathroom that feels genuinely considered at every surface. Which is, of course, exactly what it is.
