Bookmatching takes precision. Two slabs of material, cut from the same block and opened like the pages of a book, so their natural patterning mirrors perfectly across the joint. In natural stone, it is an exacting process reserved for the most ambitious projects. In large-format porcelain, it requires a different kind of discipline — and the results, when the material is right and the laying is exact, are extraordinary.

For this master ensuite in Sussex, we specified bookmatched Calacatta porcelain in a 120×278 cm format for the shower walls. Each slab was positioned as a precise mirror image of its pair, the sweeping grey veining opening symmetrically at the central joint to create a composition that feels entirely composed and inevitable. No two installations of this tile will ever look the same. This one belongs entirely to this room.

The floor introduces a deliberate counterpoint: a concrete-effect porcelain in 80×80 cm. Where the shower walls are expressive and luminous, the floor is grounded and textural. The contrast is intentional — one material speaking of marble and light, the other of weight and stillness. Together, they give the room its tension and its sophistication. Neither would be as interesting without the other.

This is a bathroom designed to be seen once and remembered.
